The Efforts Done by Howard Lederer to Succeed in Playing Poker
The life of Howard Lederer is somewhat similar to the lives of some poker professionals. He also learned about the game of poker at a very early age. For those involved in the poker industry, you may think that Howard Lederer is one lucky guy because it was his parents who encouraged him to be interested in gambling. And at such an early age, he was already playing poker against his father. He was always determined to defeat his father every time they would play, which probably honed his poker skills that eventually honed him to be a successful poker professional.
However, as Howard Lederer was growing up, he was not very interested in playing poker. More than anything else, his passion was to play chess. At a very young age, he was already displaying excellent skills in playing such game. And so, as soon as he graduated from high school, he relocated to New York City, where several popular chess clubs are located at. He enrolled himself at Columbia University but later on, dropped out of college to play chess.
At the chess club where Howard Lederer used to go to, there were poker games being conducted at its back room, which he suddenly felt were much more interesting than chess. This was the start of Howard Lederer's career in poker. He began playing such game until he soon found himself visiting the Mayfair Club in New York very frequently. There, he started playing against several poker giants, including Dan Harrington and Erik Seidel.
Howard Lederer started to feel in 1994 that he was already prepared to participate in high stakes poker games. And so, he decided to relocate to Las Vegas, Nevada to become a serious poker professional.
Howard Lederer has his own style of playing poker, which is often described as analytical, allowing him to be called "The Professor" by his fellow poker professionals. Every time he is in front of the poker table, this poker professional does not fail to show how focused he is on his play. Nevertheless, he does not show any hint of aggressiveness. This poker professional always projects a calm presence, claiming that he uses zen wisdom every time he plays poker.
The achievements of Howard Lederer include two World Series of Poker bracelets that he earned in 2000 and 2001. The first bracelet was won when he played a US$5,000 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo event that earned him US$198,000. The second bracelet was won by this poker professional when he played a US$5,000 Deuce to Seven Draw event that earned him US$165,870.
The success of Howard Lederer in the poker industry inspired him to help other poker players. And so, he decided to create an instructional video about poker titled "Secrets of No Limit Hold'em." He also finds happiness in helping his sister and female poker professional, Annie Duke, enhance her skills in playing poker. And when he is not playing, he just loves to spend time with his family.
